Reposting the PM sent to all tribesmembers.
Five in a row Four make noise The one that does not Is the one that is heard
This is the riddle we were presented with. Grundlterror, myself and Plutonium have talked in AIM, and we've come up with one possible solution that (frankly) sounds like a good, good answer.
Plutonium's answer was competitive rowing.
The reasoning?
Five people, four of which are rowing and making all the noise. However, the fifth, the leader, is the one that directs the boat, giving out orders - everyone listens to them.
Plut has submitted this answer, but I definitely encourage you to think of any alternates. The more bases we cover, the better.

Competitive rowing sounds pretty good to me.
I started thinking along the lines of musical instruments, but the only one that remotely makes sense to me is the bagpipe and I'm not sure if that makes much sense either. I mean, the great highlands bagpipe has five pipes: a blowpipe, a chanter and three drones. The blowpipe doesn't make any noise but arguably it's the one that is heard since the bagpipe won't make any sound if you don't blow into it. Meh. Doesn't sound like the intended answer but I might submit this just in case.

Coxswains make a lot of noise as the team rows. It's possible 'crew team' is the right answer, but I can't help thinking there's something better. I'll try and brainstorm.

Submitted the great highlands bagpipe. It does seem a bit far fetched, but who knows.

HylianB (9:43:54 PM): Will you need an exact name? I know Plut submitted something but we have a more specific term handy and I'm wondering if I should submit that too iamtheaznman13 (9:44:20 PM): No, as long as I know what you are talking about it is fine.

Some sort of flute would make sense. The finger-holes make the noise, and the last hole is the one heard.

Guys I was thinking about this... being heard and being listened to are two different things. I dont think you can hear something without it making noise.... maybe an alternate definition of noise?
Gah, i think I'm making this too complicated

Clearly the real answer here is the Planeteers.

Remember, it's the one that doesn't make noise that's heard, so, to me, that makes competitive rowing out, as the captain must make noise to keep pace, right?
I think we need to think of something that is immediately noticed if it doesn't make noise. In other words, something that should normally make noise and thus is off is it isn't.

Morning.
I feel no wiser than when I went to sleep. I've been trying to think outside the box but keep coming back to musical instruments and the like. String instuments don't make sense so it has to be some kind of a pipe or flute or horn. Problem is, most instruments have more than 5 of, well, anything, be it pipes or keys or strings, with the exception of the bagpipe and the banjo.
Nggh. I've never been any good at riddles. Usually they turn out to be much simpler than I think. I think grundl is onto something with the alternative definitions idea, but I can't seem to come up with anything concrete.

I was going to say something like the conductor of a quartet, but it doesn't quite fit with the 'in a row' part.

How about... a car? Five wheels, one of which is the steering wheel. The wheels make noise I guess, the steering wheel doesn't. But how the hell is it "heard". The horn? But the wheels of a car aren't in a row. Meh. I guess I'll post this here just in case it gives someone else some ideas.

I haven't had any luck, but there are some things that crossed my mind that may help other people.
In a row does not necessarily mean in a straight line or physically one after another. It could just mean consecutively in time. As in, I've had a cold for five days in a row. Or, I got five holes-in-one in a row.
Along the same lines, 'heard' could be interpreted as meaning 'recognized', like in parliamentary procedure. "We'll hear the Senator from New York."
